Updated SmarterMail from 12.x to latest 12.3; all users are gone

I was an idiot last night and forgot to backup my SmarterMail setup before applying the latest update.  Now, all the users are gone from the UI.  All the domains are there and configured properly, but the users are not.  In the file system, I can still see the user folders under the domain folders, and the size of the SmarterMail folder on disk gives me hope that mail has not been lost.
Thoughts/suggestions on how to get things back up and running properly without "starting over" with new users?

Check c:\SmarterMail\Domains\domain.com\accountList.xml

It is perhaps corrupt...

we had this issue to after an upgrade - the path to the domains/accounts was wrong :/ how did you solved your issue?
