Revert a Licensed Version of SmarterMail to the Free Edition

Follow these steps to deactivate and revert a SmarterMail installation back to the free edition, which allows to 1 domain and up to 10 mailboxes:  

  1. Log in to your SmarterMail server as the administrator.
  2. Stop the SmarterMail service (MailService.exe).
  3. Navigate to the license.json file. Its default install path is C:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service\Settings\. 
  4. Delete the license.json file.
  5. Start the SmarterMail service.
