Export auto-complete list to CSV?
Question asked by Steve Miller - 4/1/2015 at 10:58 AM
Answered
Is there any way to export the auto-complete list for a user to a CSV file? We are moving some users to a mail client (Outlook) and they seem to keep all of their contacts in here as opposed to the actual contact list.

I went browsing through the file structure on the server and found a "KnownAddresses.xml" file with all the emails in it.

Steve, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, SM does not have an export to CSV option for the auto-complete list.  However, you can use a third-party XML-to-CSV application (for example, https://xmltocsv.codeplex.com/) to create your own CSV file for import into Outlook.  The "KnownAddresses.xml" file is the correct file to use to accomplish this.

Hi Steve, Robert
I am trying to do the same with my auto-complete list. May I ask where did you find the Knownaddresses.xml file? Would it be on the server of my domain host? or does SmarterTools have a server that you can access? Any help is greatly appreciated!

If the auto-complete list was integrated with Contacts, there would be an easy solution to this. You could simply export Contacts. Or better yet, just sync contacts with Outlook.

Here's an old thread with 11 votes to merge the Contacts & Auto-Complete:

KnowAddresses.xml file is found inside each user's folder. For example, C:\SmarterMail\Domains\{domainName}\{user}\KnownAddresses.xml

Hi Robert,
Please forgive my ignorance. I have doteasy.com as my domain/mail host (they must use Smartermail to provide email service for some of their customers like myself.) I do not see the knownaddresses.xml file in my cPanel and it is not on my local CPU. Am I not looking in the right place?
Thanks for your help.

Mark, this is a server side file. Only your host would have access to this file.

In SM 17, there are no XML files anymore.  Where can this list be found now?

Thanks!

Jane,

The autocomplete list is now located in MRS\Domains\{domain}\Users\{user}\Settings\acquaintances.json

Note that there is also a website that can convert json to CSV - https://json-csv.com/

Is there a way for a user to purge his auto-complete list, or disable it?   I could not find a setting to do so.
Not on latest release.   Currently build 7242 (Oct 30, 2019)
