British Columbia and Permanent Daylight Savings Time

Starting November 1, 2026, the Canadian Province of British Columbia will be adopting permanent Daylight Savings Time. As such, clocks will not be changed at Midnight on November 1st. This also means that the Province will permanently shift to the UTC -7 time zone, making the "America/Vancouver" time zone currently available in Windows null and void.

To accommodate this shift, Microsoft will be releasing an update to support this change, beginning in September of 2026 for Windows 11. These will be non-security updates. Remaining versions of Windows will receive updates beginning in October 2026.

More information can be found on the Microsoft Daylight Saving Time & Time Zone Blog: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/category/windows/blog/dstblog

If you have any issues with creating or managing appointments in SmarterMail AFTER November 1, 2026 with attendees in British Colombia, the first thing to do is verify your device has the necessary Windows updates.
