SmarterMail
SmarterMail has been around for quite some time. Below, we wanted to highlight some of the key milestones since SmarterMail was first released back in 2003.

  • July, 2003 - SmarterMail 1.0 Released
  • September, 2004- SmarterMail 2.x Released, the first major upgrade.
    • February, 2005 - Added SPF checks
  • February, 2006- SmarterMail 3.x released and introduced impersonation, AD authentication, Calendaring, GAL support, LDAP support, Message Archiving, IDS, Shared calendars, contacts, tasks, etc., User Groups
    • April, 2006 - Category support added (3.1)
  • January, 2007- SmarterMail 4.x released and introduced Autocomplete, Brute Force detection, POP Retrieval, Smart Gateway support, Notes and shared Notes, more granular reporting, a new interface, and .NET 2.5
    • May, 2007 - SmarterMail 4.2 released and introduced a large number of administration features like more logging options, SSL/TLS support for SMTP/POP/IMAP, support for IMAP IDLE, SSL support for POP retrieval, minimum password lengths, etc.
    • July, 2007 - SmarterMail 4.3 released and added Domain Admin General Settings, Whitelisted IPs for Greylisting, auto-clean of folders for users.
  • March, 2008- SmarterMail 5.x released and introduced draft auto saves, a new Reminder/notification system, added views for upcoming appointments and all appointments, Event system, DomainKey support, message prioritization, Throttling, User Defaults at the system level.
    • May, 2008 - SmarterMail 5.1 released and introduced the Log Viewer, several improvements to antispam.
  • August, 2009- SmarterMail 6.x released and introduced Commtouch (Cyren) Premium Antispam, domain-level signatures, IMAP message retrieval, Mailbox Migration, Message Archive search, Add to Outlook (two-way sync of Tasks, Calendars, and Contacts with Outlook), .NET 3.5 support.
    • October, 2009 - SmarterMail 6.5 released and introduced Commtouch (Cyren) Zero-hour Antivirus
  • July, 2010- SmarterMail 7.x released, the first major interface upgrade. Also introduced Availability checks, ability to flag messages, multiple calendar views (day, week, month), Custom Reports, Advanced Search, new indexing for all areas (email, contacts, calendars, notes), CalDAV/CardDAV support, File Storage.
    • September, 2010 - SmarterMail 7.2 introduced Exchange migrations.
  • March, 2011 - SmarterMail 8.x released. Added Contact export to CSV, Global Trusted Senders, message footers for domains, multiple signature support on email compose, message filters, vCard support, password compliance page.
  • January, 2012- SmarterMail 9.x released. System and domain admin logging, automated scheduling conflict checks, Live Chat, drop folder for the Spool.
    • February, 2012 - SmarterMail 9.1 released. Multiple EWS additions including shared calendars, contacts, and tasks.
  • June, 2012 - SmarterMail 10.x released. Mobile support for webmail, Autodiscover for SMTP, IMAP, POP, and EWS, domain-level calendars with sharing, rooms for appointments, Failover support. 
  • February, 2013 - SmarterMail 11.x released. Abuse detection, cookie notification, IPv6 support, calendar auto-clean, RTL support in webmail, start/end dates for autoresponders.
  • February, 2014- SmarterMail 12.x released. CIDR notation support for IP addresses, user import from CSV, improved IPv6 support (IDS checks, greylisting, whitelist/blacklist, etc.), start/stop mailbox migrations, server blacklist check for IPs, Google Drive integration.
    • July, 2014 - SmarterMail 12.3 released. Support for EAS Flex Billing.
  • November, 2014 - SmarterMail 13.x released. Email folder restore without service restart, expanded password requirements including expiration support and prevent common usage.
  • June, 2015- SmarterMail 14.x released. Local/remote delivery options, CalDAV support for multiple calendars, Dropbox and oneDrive integration, multiple calendar support for EWS.
    • August, 2015 - SmarterMail 14.2 released. ICS support, FIPS compliance.
  • March, 2017 - SmarterMail 15.x released. Introduced a number of back end and administrative/log updates. (E.g., EAS login failures). 
  • May, 2017 - SmarterMail 16.x releases. MAJOR interface upgrade, begin conversion from XML to JSON, Windows 2012 R2 64-bit requirement, Team Workspaces (Online Meetings), improved "Group Chat", domains can now send through specific gateways, spam check and autodiscover logging, outgoing file type restrictions, NULL sender checks, ability to modify Autodiscover XML, removed Bayesian Filtering. Was the last "Major" release.
  • December, 2018 - Build 6911 released. Changed releases from "Major" versions to Builds, and adopted a more organized release schedule. Introduced manually running Content Filters, simplified installer, TLS version support (enable/disable TLS 1.0/1.1/1.2), secondary folder sharing, added log levels (normal/detailed), expanded property support for EAS, EWS, WebDAV, and Add to Outlook. 
  • May, 2019 - Build 7090 released. REST API available for public consumption.
  • June, 2020 - Build 7459 released. MAPI support! NTLM authentication for EAS, EWS, and MAPI, expanded properties for enterprise protocols across contacts, tasks, notes, etc.
  • October, 2020 - Build 7593 released. - Expanded and improved language support, screen sharing in Online Meetings, internal/external autoresponders, support for external calendar subscriptions, added Sharing pane for items shared and shared with a user. 
  • November, 2020 - Build 7611 released. - New WebRTC framework for Online Meetings and the ability to pin attendees. 
  • January, 2022 - Build 8055 released. Resync All Devices, Resync User Protocols.
  • April, 2023 - Build 8495 released. Email addresses created for Resources, IDS rule consolidation, Gravatar and BIMI support, automatic blocks of Class Cs for IDS, Contact Group support across enterprise protocols, Delegation, External Sender Notification, HAM/SPAM training, Archive auto-clean, Equipment Shared Resource, Verification Shield (Sender Trust Scoring), support for attachments across all areas, support for categories/tags across all areas, external Rspamd, Outlook Follow-up support, Domain shares for calendars, contacts, tasks, and notes, geographic blocking, Online Meeting integration with calendar appointments, Two-Factor Authentication for system administrators, User Connections and User Status pages, Zoom Room and Microsoft Teams support in calendar invitations, DMARC improvements, Exchange migration rework to include categories, flags, etc.
  • August, 2023 - Build 8629 released. Block authentication by country added.
  • December, 2023 - Build 8747 released. "What's New" modals, expanded External Sender settings, import/expert tasks via ICS, Cyren IP Reputation added as part of Cyren Premium Antispam add-on, automated SSL certificates via Let's Encrypt, eM Client partnership, offline address book support for the GAL, Google Drive/vBoxx/Leitzcloud integration, Scheduling added, cloud storage provider views in File Storage. DKIM rollover (8755). 
  • February, 2024 - Build 8818 released. ARC verification and signing added, Certificates logging added for ACME SSL validation checks. 
  • July, 2024 - Build 8965 released. SmarterMail now available on Linux! "Tentative" and "propose new time", and change response to meeting invites, HSTS and CSP support, IDN and EAI internationalization standards support, ownCloud integration, password requirements for system admins, PUSH for OpenTelemetry, rate limits for automated SSLs, TLS negotiation for IMAP and POP retrieval. "Replied on" and "Forwarded on" messages in webmail (8971).
