The Motorola DroidX and Droid2 have known issues connecting to POP accounts. If you are using SSL, the Droid2 and DroidX will use TLS instead of SSL, even if you have specified otherwise on the device.
The device will attempt to connect to SmarterMail over port 443, the connection will be established, however the device will issue TLS commands, since SmarterMail is expecting SSL commands over port 443, these will be rejected.
