SmarterMail 9651?
Problem reported by John Quest - 6/5/2026 at 8:12 AM
Known
I received email notifications about a new version release, 9651, dated 06/04/2026.

Yet, I see no evidence of such a release.

This morning it was available for download, then suddenly it disappeared...

It would be really nice if there were some more transparent official communications...

I guess I will wait before we decide to upgrade since it sounds like a major upgrade from the notification.

There was at least one bug.  We started to get complaints from customers about mail stuck in Junk Mail.  You could not move mail out or in for that matter.  Clicking on the button Move to Inbox generated an error "u.promptSpamFooConsentIfNeeded is not a function"

We had no idea that 9651 was replaced with 9652.  Nothing has been sent out as of yet.  I do not see anything in the 9652 release notes that shows the issue above, however, 9652 corrected the above behavior.  So, we will start re-upgrading customer servers.
9652 is released.... and 9651 dissappeared very quickly.... I bet issues were found that once again got past QC.

Is anyone trying the 9652?...

Yes. Running here and no issues reported.

Have had a couple of people report some errors when attempting to download attachments. But have not seen it yet myself. Anyone else had this?

Did the 9652 update last night. Went quickly and without issue. Once again, I didn't bother with the uninstall first, just ran the installer, click, click, click, done. Rebooted due to both waiting Windows updates and to make sure SM came back properly after a system restart. Haven't received any complaints or questions so far.

Ran both 9651 (saw some security lines in there), promptly received reports of the  u.promptSpamFooConsentIfNeeded is not a function and then ran 9652 which installed and has been running without an issue (Windows 2022).

For 9652, we've noticed a bug in the webmail, where left-clicking on an attachment to download it causes the browser to try and download said attachment twice. Firefox, in my testing, pops up two "Save As" file explorer windows, and Chrome will block the multiple downloads, but if you allow it, it will download the attachment twice, one attachment.doc and one attachment(1).doc for instance.

Right-click > Save As only downloads it the one time.

Seeing that webmail download behavior too.

The bug with attachments downloading twice was able to be replicated and and it's been escalated to development. We will follow up again here once we've resolved the issue.
