SmarterMail’s AI features are powerful, but the current domain-based API key model does not scale for hosting providers, MSPs, and multi-tenant environments.
Proposed Feature
Support for a server-level (global) AI API key with usage quota management.
Requirements:
A single AI API key defined at server level
Prompt / token limits enforced per:
- Domain
- Mailbox
- Policy
End users can use AI features without managing their own API keys
Optional domain-level API key override
Why This Is Needed
- Managing AI API keys per domain is not practical
- Customers want AI features but do not want to deal with API keys or billing
- Quota management:
- Prevents abuse
- Makes costs predictable
- Enables tiered AI plans
Without this capability, AI adoption at scale is not feasible for service providers.
