Outlook 365 for Mac broken?

So, I had a customer call today about setting up their new iMac with Office.  I usually suggest just using Apple Mail, but I can't tell customers which clients to use.  I tried setting it up on my MacBook Pro here, and couldn't figure out what Microsoft wanted either.
New interface as for the following:
Email Address: user@domain.com
Full Name: (Optional)
DOMAIN\Username or email: user@domain.com
Password: ???
Server:  https:// or http://
Obliviously, I'm using ficticious domain names and server names, but I can't get it to connect.
I don't think I see either attempt though hit the server under Administrative logs.

Anyone successful setting up a new version of Outlook 365 on Mac and any tips....

I suspect your customer is using Outlook New on their Mac.
How do they want to connect to SM? POP3, IMAP, or EWS?

Outlook New only supports POP3/SMTP without any problems.
Third-party IMAP always causes problems.
EWS is no longer supported in Outlook New and will be discontinued by Microsoft on October 1, 2026.

We have to accept that MS Outlook will only be usable with MS365 (Exchange Online) in the near future.

However, there are some pretty good alternatives, such as em Client.

As much as i would love to recommend an alternative, that just doesn't fly with most clients (at least around here)

My guess is that MS will milk this as long as possible until they start getting wind of anti-trust / monopoly investigations then miraculously an update will appear with at least MAPI (or something similar) to appease those launching the investigation.

In the mean time, they are banking on as many people as possible  getting nervous and switching because of lack of current support.

gotta love the big guys eh ... that's why we tell our clients to use webmail lol
