Cloud Archiver (BCAS) journaling - Connector

Create a feature to journal emails to a Cloud Archiver - example Barracuda Archiver.

The link show how to setup a connector in M365 - but Smartermail needs to have a way to have another gateway for emails.

The event feature doesn't work as all emails are going out the primary gateway which is forwarded to an email filtering application.

This is our Campus article for Journaling in M365:
Barracuda -  manually-configure-journaling

Journaling in M365 revolves around the mail server creating a copy of every message for every user and group and sending it to the Cloud Archiver (BCAS) journaling address. M365 even has the ability to exempt messages for "mas.barracudanetworks.com" from being sent to ESS, and can send the messages directly to us via our MX records.

If the mail server could send messages directly to "mas.barracudanetworks.com" rather than the SmartHost for ESS listed as the Gateway, then messages for BCAS wouldn't be getting deferred in ESS.

To be honest, I don't quite understand your problem. Journaling is nothing more than creating all incoming and outgoing messages in a separate mailbox as an additional recipient using a SmarterMail rule, which is then picked up and archived by the archiver using IMAP4.

When you forward an email, you always have the problem that you, as the recipient, are also the sender of the message, which means that not only is the header of the message completely destroyed because it is rewritten since you are the sender, but also that the original sender is no longer recognizable as the sender. If you were to add a copy recipient to an external email address, this would constitute email spoofing because you are not authorized to send a message externally on behalf of another mail server.

We are trying to use the Barracuda  Email Cloud Archiver System and the recommended way is to use a domain connector to send emails to the system.

I cannot post the link to the entire instructions from Barracuda,  Manually Configure Journaling

Step 1. Add a Remote Domain and Connector

  1. Log into Microsoft 365 Exchange admin center.
  2. Navigate to mail flow > remote domains.
  3. Select Add a remote domain.
  4. Complete the following:
    1. Name – Type Barracuda Cloud Archiving Service
    2. Remote domain – Type your region-specific MAS hostname

Hello Nancy,

Then I recommend a white label solution that won't cause you any problems: https://www.galaxyweb.ch/e-mail-archivierung.

If you want to operate this as a reseller for your end customers, you will have better conditions. If you are the end customer, you can use the prices there as a guide.
