Exception for SMTP-out certificate violations?
Question asked by Mark Thornton - 3/25/2025 at 10:46 AM

Is there a way I can bypass the SMTP outbound certificate violations for specific domains?

I have a neighboring agency living in denial about the problems with their mail configuration because they are receiving mail, so it must be my fault. Their mail server responds as xyz.com but the certificate is for their domain name zyx.gov. Sending them copies of the logs doesn't help, because again it is working for other people, must be my problem.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for reaching out! SmarterMail doesn’t support bypassing SMTP certificate validation for specific domains. However, you can adjust the overall certificate validation settings for your entire mail server.

The root domain mismatch between the mail server’s response and the certificate presented is definitely causing the issue. In this case, disabling strict validation would resolve the problem, but please keep in mind that this may compromise the security of the server.

To make this change, go to: Settings > Protocols > SMTP Out > TLS Certificate Validation.

Let me know if you need any further assistance!

Thanks,
