Gateway - Waiting to Deliver messages
Question asked by kevind - 2/10/2025 at 9:22 AM
Answered
Running a SmarterMail gateway and regularly see messages like this in the Waiting to Deliver spool:

From: System Administrator <noreply@resci1.ccsend.com>
To: AoBg7MniWSjmB3pl1D3u1PA==_1136903570_IOXsojkYIhwmw==@resci1.ccsend.com

Delivery to these recipients is complete, but no delivery notification was sent by the destination server:
user@mydomain.com

Subject: xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx
Not all from ccsend, just one example. Any idea why this happens or ways to shut it off? Thanks!

These messages are generated by SmarterMail when a message was received with a request for a Delivery Status Notification (DSN), but the server that SmarterMail passed the message to did not support generating DSN. This is determined based on the capabilities reported by the other server during the SMTP session.

You can turn off support for DSN messages by logging in as a system administrator and going to Settings > Protocols and disabling the "Enable Delivery Status Notifications (DSN)" option on the SMTP In card. Disabling this option will prevent these messages from being generated, but it will also prevent your gateway from relaying DSN requests to the destination server.

Thanks, Andrew, for the reply and procedure to disable!

FWIW, the gateway is passing the message to a SmarterMail 15.7 server. Does that version not support DSN?

It looks like 15.7 does not support DSN. Based on the release notes, DSN support was added with build 6911 at the end of 2018.

OK, thanks for clarification. We want to move off 15.7, but not sure which build to use for the upgrade. Jumping all the way to 9168 (Feb 6, 2025) seem like a stretch. Maybe I should make a new post and ask the community?
