Command-Line AntiVirus, Modify .hdr
Question asked by Tom Schwarz - 1/22/2025 at 6:36 AM
Unanswered
I'm using the Command-Line AntiVirus and it works great but my program needs to add to the .hdr file so some information gets passed to the client email in the header.  On the client side I'm using the Smartermail web interface so there are no third party programs getting in the way.  When I look at the email header in the web interface, the header looks nothing like the .hdr looked when it was modified.  There is a lot of extra smartermail lines and my line is gone.   Any thoughts?

I'll note that I modify the Subject in the .eml file and it gets passed through just fine.

The .HDR file is temporary.   SmarterMail creates it to provide message metadata, and the called program can add some metadata content if SmarterMail expects that information and its format.   For Declude, the expected content is the spam weight.  Once SmarterMail receives the message back from the subsystem, the HDR file is processed and discarded.   If you want to pass information downstream, you need to add a custom header field to the EML file.

There are a couple reasons we do this. The main one is so that SmarterMail can more easily access the data it needs instead of always parsing the eml everytime it needs some information about where to send the email.
