Planning to update from 8664 to 8930 with many users using EAS, MAPI & EWS, plus IMAP
Question asked by MGWallace - 12/11/2024 at 2:14 PM
Unanswered
After researching all the comments, we feel it may be safe to say we can update to SM 8930 and still expect everything to be working after said update. We would love to update to the newest build, but we are seeing to many issues reported... especially if we need to rollback then update again.

Is there anyone still using an older solid build and waiting for a good build to come out? A build that will function, as it should with everything?

At this point, we feel we are not getting our money worth as we are only paying for the syncing features as all the other builds are not working... and we recently renewed our license!

We were always excited to update many years ago... but now, its like walking on eggshells! Will it work or not? Will our clients be down for a few days (such was the case when we did update to 8664).

Thank you in advance SmarterMail Community!

We have not upgraded in some time due to the same fears - to the point that we also did not renew our support agreement as there were no builds that we could update to that wouldn't have some surprise issue one way or another.  The continued cadence of adding new features WHILE triaging bugs is not working because there are no stable releases in some time.

We are a small provider and cannot afford hiccups in software that was sold under the enterprise moniker but does not withstand enterprise testing when released to the public.  It cost us too much business in the past to take the chance further. The overhead to running multiple servers just so one can act as a test-bed does not add up either, let alone the client aggravation and man-hours involved in keeping things together.

I hear you J. LaDow. We are in the same boat. The only thing is, we have users using outlook, so we needed to renew to keep those clients happy.

Thank you for your reply!

8930 is the best version yet.

We have had very few issues and outlook/mapi is good and the mobile clients connecting with EAS is also working.

Thank you @Brian Bjerring-Jensen for you reply and confirming more about 8930 build!

I have upgraded maybe 10 times to recent builds but had to revert every single time...

Not even 9091 is working for us using MAPI/EAS. If you use characters like "" then headers go missing...

@Brian Bjerring-Jensen May we ask you, what were the few issues you ran into when going to 8930? Will we need to open a support ticket? I, myself, understand the coding quite well and when we did update to 8664, I needed to go fix the coding in many of the domains, so the administration was able to see them.

Wow! Updated maybe 10 times and still issues!

It would be a miracle to get a working stable current build before 2025!!!

@Brian: The ticket you had open regarding the "" headers went dark on us while we were waiting for an EML example for further testing; were you able to get us a copy of that so we can try to replicate the issue?

I had problems after upgrading to 8965 with MAPI earlier this year. I downgraded to 8930 (which was still an upgrade at the time for us) and had been on 8930 until this weekend. I upgraded to 9091 and I have had no issues with MAPI or anything else. Everything is working great.

Try to use special characters in your emails like "" and then the headers in sent items begins to dissappear...

Aha. I have a ticket open right now about something very similar. Customer received an email, (MAPI) responded, and then the original message disappeared. More accurately, it shows as a blank message in Outlook inbox. In webmail, message shows with sender and intact header info but message contents are gone. Original exists in email archive.

In that event, we will only plan on upgrading to 8930 this next week... keeping our fingers crossed that the upgrade goes better then last time!

Thank you Everyone for your input this far.

Cheers.
