Mailing Lists improvements
Idea shared by David Sovereen - Yesterday at 9:12 AM
Under Consideration
This idea was brought to us by one of our users who utilizes mailing lists on a regular basis. They have proposed having improved moderation capabilities for mailing lists that would allow list moderators the ability to perform actions on messages that have been sent to the mailing list from people not designated as allowed posters. Messages would essentially be held in a "staging area" of sorts; similar to how GNU Mailman works. From there, the moderator(s) could perform specific actions on each of the messages:

- Accept: Allow the message
- Reject: Reject the message with a notification back to the sender
- Discard: Reject the message without sending a notification back to the sender
- Defer: Handle the message at a later date

Perhaps this could be an option to enable/disable this feature as a whole per mailing list so that when it is not enabled mailing lists will effectively work the same as they currently do.

Also, making it easier to identify subscribers as currently the subscribers list only displays the subscribers email address, subscribed date, and bounced message count. In order to see additional details for the subscriber you need to click each subscriber, and view the details in the modal window. This works, but sometimes subscribers are not easily recognizable by their email address, and needing to click each one to check additional details such as their name is not always ideal; especially when a mailing list has a large number of subscribers. Having better subscriber identifiable information readily available on the subscribers list could help with this.

Hi David,

Thanks for sharing your ideas. I've escalated this request by adding it to the product backlog. When the product management team goes through the planning stages for new feature Builds, they use the items in the backlog as the basis for that planning. Therefore, this request will be re-visited and re-evaluated in the future.

Showing a name would be handy, but isn't this information only collected via custom variables? would be nice if it was an available field instead of custom though.

We've been starting to get into mailing list a bit on our side, and one item that has come up a few times is sub-set mailing. I know platforms like MailChimp do it, where we can filter by a custom field, and then send an email blast to just that selection of users (without having to create a whole new mailing list).

I know Mailing Lists are not a primary focus for SM, but some added core features would really help out a lot, especially with the cost of other platforms going through the roof.
