I am trying to get smartermail connected with postal smtp server as outbound gateway, postal is working fine, but when i try to connect with smartermail i get the error
Server received a bad response from the gateway server.

Please suggest

Hello Vikram,

One good way to start investigating this issue is to ensure SMTP logs are set to Detailed, and search them for the traffic that corresponds with this failed connection. Hopefully there is a more descriptive error in there somewhere that can point us in the right direction.
