How does the new SmarterMail build 9008 (Windows) work?
Question asked by Gabriele Maoret - SERSIS - 8/31/2024 at 1:17 AM
Unanswered
I was brave (...and quite reckless...) and upgraded our main SM cloud server (a dedicated server running Windows 2022) to SM build 9008.

I'll keep you posted on developments...

Jumped in as well.... testing.

So far it seems ok. It resolved some issues we had in previous releases.
However I still have to do some additional tests to be sure nothing else broke.

Kind regards

After upgrading from 8930 to 9008 I see an increase in CPU usage.
For now it doesn't seem to be anything to worry about, but I prefer to report it for information.

Below is the hourly graph of the last few days, where you can see exactly the transition from 8930 to 9008:

I am getting this in sent folders
No name in the headline and no emailaddress/avatar

It happens on every email sent since the reboot of the server this morning.

Reverting back to 8930 since clients cant search email

@Brian: is this in MS Outlook or in WebMail?

yes. Doesnt add the headers and avatar back.

Went back to the trusted 8930 and they came right back when you send an email from outlook

Damn, seems it's not possible to have a fully working build :'(

Please don’t say that. The support team will get offended. For every problem you face, there is something wrong with your environment. 😀

The heasers and avatar are in webmail.

So its a MAPI problem.

I was really looking forward to finally updating to the latest SmarterMail build too, now this. I do know for a fact, most of the users rely on searching, in both Outlook and on the Webmail.

Thank you for testing everything out and reporting back your findings.

For now everything is still working fine for me, without any reports of problems...

These community 'new version tests' are the best, I can't thank you 'brave' guys enough... I'm leaning toward updating, from 8930 now...

is the left pane in the admin window on CAPS LOCK until you press CTRL+F5 or reboot the server??

Its only until the window is refreshed.

We haven't had any reports of issues so far with Build 9008.

We are now two working days on 9008 and so far no problems reported. Can't replicate the problems above.

Derek at SM has replicated it using M365 version 2407. There are no avatars in any mail.

We were only affected in the sent items folder.

@Brian, was Derek able to replicate just the missing avatars or missing names also?

I was able to replicate simply missing avatars. Everything else appears as it does in webmail.

I've added it to our Issue Tracker and assigned it to a dev to look at. Once I have some feedback, I'll let you know.

A word of caution: I installed this over 8993 and it hosed the website, meaning that the website configuration was incomplete. I had to uninstall and then reinstall back over again.

It also left the ApplicaitonPool with an unconfigured .NET CLR Version. I had to manually set that to v4.0

My Application Pool's .NET CLR Version has been set to No Managed Code since Build 8747 (Dec 13, 2023), the first version to use the newer .NET (not Framework). That version update changed the setting for me and I assumed the change was intentional.

Hello John and Nick,

"No managed code" is the correct option for the .NET CLR version as of our transition to CORE.

Those of you having issues with Avatars and/or names in Outlook, are you logging into Outlook with a Microsoft account or not? We have a few installs of Outlook, but they're all licensed versions and we are unable to replicate the issue in these. In MY install, I have an "inactive" Outlook install, so I have a read-only version of my Inbox. I'm sure you don't have that, but I'm curious if you're using any of your SmarterMail accounts as your Microsoft account or not.

Do either of you have the GAL enabled for your domain(s) having the issue?

GAL enabled here.

It can be solved if you switch from UTF8 in outlook to Western European ISO.

Then the headers are back when you send email.
