IMAP / Outlook / Favorites / Multiple processes
Problem reported by Brian Bjerring-Jensen - 4/14/2024 at 3:42 AM

Cannot delete emails from within outlook on an IMAP account.

Favorite folders keeps dissappearing.

Funny named accounts appear in outlook with no account attached to it. You need to close it in outlook to make it go away. Then its asks you to remove the folder 0#¤25 and you dont have any idea to where that name appeared from....

We are about to pull the plug on this and look elsewhere. We cant be beta testers anymore.

If you have a mix og MAPI and IMAP accounts (more than one) then you cant delete emails from the 2nd added IMAP account.

Looks like you had two SmarterMail services running at the same time.  Did you try shutting down SmarterMail at that time?

Also, there is an issue with Outlook and favorites and looks to be an Outlook issue. We are seeing the same behavior with Exhange.

Havent seen two processes running afaik.

It happened when I uninstalled 8839 and rebooted and then installed 8867.

All IMAP users began to report not fetching mail and I had to reinstall all accounts on my outlook.

Users with only IMAP accounts began to receive mail once the mailservice.exe was running.

It is a best to have Task Manager open when you run the installer. There are times the MailService will not close within the Windows default timeout period because it is still processing tasks and requests prior to the shutdown signal.  Unfortunately, we can't control some of the Windows default behaviors around services and shutdown.

In regards to the Favorite issue, that is an Outlook bug. The same issue is occurring in Exchange.

I rebooted the server after the uninstall. That should have killed the process.

For some period of time based on what you provided, two processes were running. The service should also not be killed abnormally, otherwise data could become corrupt.
