SmarterMail and port 17017

Hi all,

I'm wondering why it's possible to connect to SmarterMail with port 17017 after upgrading SmarterMail and with stopped IIS website of SmarterMail.

I'm stopping the IIS site and the application pool of SmarterMail before upgrading SmarterMail. When the installation finishes the application pool is started but the IIS site not. The browser then opens the website of SmarterMail with port 17017 and shows the login page.

Can anyone explain this behavior? I can't find any documentation for this.

Thank you and have a nice weekend.

With recent versions of SmarterMail use Core 8, it has it's own webserver listening locally on port 17017.

IIS is now only used as the internet faced web service acting a reverse proxy to SM web server.

So yes, as long as the SmarterMail service is running, you will be able to join its webserver locally on port 17017.

Well at least that's how I understand it.
