What's the latest build for server 2012 r2? Would build 8797 work?

Hi, we are running win svr 2012 r2. What's the latest version we can upgrade to? I saw that minimum os requirement for build 8797 is win svr 2016 but wondering if it will be ok to install it on 2012 r2 as well? 
Thanks for your help.
2012R2 is EOL.

The install should work on 2012 R2. I believe 2012 R1 vs R2 is where things actually don't work. But it's still unsupported, so I'd still heavily recommend a server upgrade at some point. Not sure how long dotnet plans on supporting it, we'll be sticking to latest versions of dotnet.

Matt is correct here. If you try to install it on Windows Server 2012 Standard it will fail to complete. But if you install it on R2 it will work I would just use the most updated version you can. But I don't recommend setting up a new environment on an EOL OS. You should try to get on something newer as the longer you sit on that the more liability that will carry.

Follow up on this old post. Trying to determine the newest build that will run on Windows 2012 R2. 

If anyone is running Windows 2012 R2, please reply with the build you are using. Specifically, wondering if Build 9413 which fixes the vulnerability will run. TIA.

The latest build that I was able to get running on my no longer in use 2012 R2 instance was 9229. Last summer I tried to update to 9xxx (whatever build...) and the installation was generating all kind of errors. Probably due to Dot Net or other components but I knew I was using EOL software and didn't expect much help from ST support. I was already planning a new server but kept putting it off until this CVE issue cropped up recently. So, I bit the bullet and deployed a new server. PITA but it's done! Maybe I'm good for another 12 years???
