OnlyOffice Docs Connector
Idea shared by Scarab - 12/4/2023 at 2:14 PM
Under Consideration
Although SmarterMail has a basic File Storage function (and Connectivity to Dropbox and OneDrive), it does not have the ability to edit or create Docs and Sheets as Google Workspaces does. This is a commonly requested feature from our SmarterMail user-base. I'm not sure if it is even something that is on a future SmarterMail version roadmap (or is ever planned to be).

There is a mature Community OpenSource project called OnlyOffice Docs that has an API that allows it to be connected to a third-party application. As OnlyOffice Docs does utilize PostgreSQL I can't imagine this product (or one of similar functionality) being incorporated directly into SmarterMail, but it would be useful to have a connector in SmarterMail so that those running an OnlyOffice Docs server could directly tie it into SmarterMail File Storage so that there could be editing parity with Docs and Sheets features in Google Drive & Google Workspaces. For reference, other applications that have OnlyOffice Connectors can be found at https://www.onlyoffice.com/all-connectors.aspx

Just wanted to toss this out there as a suggestion for a future feature.

I can support this - do have a seperate request open to integrate our cloud storage offering and that would profit from onlyoffice integration via wopi as well.

What cloud storage solution are you using?

Be cool to have OwnCloud/NextCloud as well, both support WOPI.

It seems like we need to vote for the top 5 File Storage solutions and the top 5 SMS providers. How about RSA tokens too. The amount of 3rd party solutions is mind boggling.

NextCloud/OwnCloud integration.

In this test, I would find it useful if the administrator could also specify for the domain which storage providers are permitted at all. There is always the aspect of data protection laws. For example, retirement centers, retirement homes, medical practices, lawyers, etc. are only allowed to use certain services in their own country.

I imagine that you can generally say, are storage services allowed, yes or no. If yes, that you can select which ones are possible:

For example:
- OneDrive
- Dropbox
- Seafile
- Nextcloud
- Owncloud

With Seafile and Nextcloud/Owncloud, you could perhaps predefine the server details for the domain, which would be really great.

Yep, we've been loosing some customers to Google/MS and we believe the lack of office Apps is a big contributor.
