Can't send more than one message at a time via SSL/TSL on our Forum Software
Question asked by ActorMike - 10/31/2023 at 2:18 PM

We moved servers, and now when we send our weekly newsletter to 12,000+ people it only sends one at a time via SMTP. On the other server it would send big batches, but I do not recall the number. The forum software support insists this is related to the mail server somehow. I think I did a ticket about this years ago, but the ticketing system has purged all the old tickets.

Does anyone know what is throttling the SMTP messages?

UPDATE: It appears when emails are send on the website forums via SSL/TLS they are sent one at a time. If switched to non-SSL/TLS transport they go in batches of 91.

Check domain options for "outgoing messages per hour"

Same thing for user "outgoing messages per hour"

Also check Server Admin > Settings > General > Delivery Delay in seconds

Also check Server Admin > Settings > Protocols > SMTP In > Max Messages per Session

Max Messages per Session= 0
Delivery Delay = 3 (can I set this to zero?)

outgoing messages per hour domain 25000
outgoing messages per hour user 25000

Delivery Delay, yes sir. Our installation is set to 0.

How about on that same page, Max Local Delivery Threads

Ours is set to 50.

Have you dug into SMTP logs? Could be something more apparent in there. Good luck!

I figured out the issue. If I setup the email transport method to SSL it will only send emails 1 at a time. If I do not use SSL/TSL it will send 91 at a time! Big difference!

Now I am trying to determine what is causing this.
