labels
Problem reported by Sabatino - 10/25/2023 at 3:49 PM
Resolved
build 8664

I noticed a problem that could cause a lot of problems with customers.

If a folder containing messages with labels is rebuilt, after some time the messages no longer have labels.

It doesn't happen immediately, I don't understand why. However, after a while the labels disappear

Hey Sabatino,

Thanks for finding this! I was able to replicate it. I will send it over to development.

Thanks again!

Is there any news?
I have a client who uses labels a lot and it scares me that he might lose them. I hope the problem is only with the rebuild

Currently, the developers are still working on this issue and we do not have any updates to share at this time. We will keep you informed as soon as we have any more information.

Hey Sabatino,

I checked the development task. It looks like we just added a note to the Rebuild modal.
I understand that this isnt really fixing the issue but it should at least warn users of the potental dangers of this option. Instead of rebuilding we recomend using the attach folder option.

Thank you,

Hello,

Following up to Zach's post... The release note for this build should have read:
"Changed: Updated the Rebuild Folder modal to note that some folder data may be lost due to the rebuild process."

I will get this corrected in our release notes so it is a more apt description of our changes.

Kind regards,

Basically, rebuilding a folder re-reads the .grp files to rebuild the folder's mailbox.cfg from scratch and therefore losing tags/flags/any other metadata associated with mails that aren't stored present in .grp files ?

Just want to be sure so we can avoid doing a rebuild when it's doing more harm than benefits.

Thanks for the feedback.

If a user needs a folder rebuilt, flags are likely the last thing on their mind.

Well, it's not always true. There are users that rely on "replied", "forwarded", and other flags on a single mailbox,  but accessed by different people, so they know what need attention.

Reset these flags and they are lost....

from the tests I had done, what is lost in case of rebuild are not the 'reply', read, unread, forward tags but the labels

Hey Everyone,

That is true. From my testing, it's only the labels that get lost.

Hello Zach,

Okay that's good to know.

Last time we had to rebuild some mailboxes it also lost "read", "forwarded", etc flags.
But maybe it was with an "old" version of SM and it improved since :)

Kind regards
