Outlook Rules does not work automatically on MAPI
Problem reported by Manuel Martins - 9/18/2023 at 2:40 PM
Not A Problem
Hi,

Does anyone know why Outlook Rules does not work automatically on MAPI when new emails come in.

If I run the rule manually it works fine but when a new email comes in the rule does not act.

Thanks.

Hi Manuel,

Server-side rules are unsupported at this time. However, we have a task to address this in a future build. Client-side rules, on the other hand, should run automatically within Outlook, as of Build 8629 (Aug 17, 2023). If you're not already on this version, please update.

If the update doesn't resolve the problem or if you're not sure whether you're using a client or server side rule, can you please share the details of the rule (omitting any personal data, as needed)?

Thank you,

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for your reply, we are already using Build 8629 (ago 17, 2023) a few weeks ago.

I'm creating the rules directly on Outlook, how can I know if they are Server or Client Side ?

Thanks you.

Hi Manuel,

This is a guide from Microsoft:
Server-side vs. client-only rules

If it's client side, I believe it's indicated on the rule itself when creating or editing it.

Please let me know what you find.

Hi Andrea,

The Rules we are using are Server-Side according to Microsoft so it's explained.

Hurry up with the Development of Server.Side Rules in MAPI please, we have a lot of clients complaining this situation.

Thanks for your explanation and help Andrea.

This one caught me by surprise. Is this still planned? Seems like this has been requested for many, many years by now (e.g. see a thread from 2020 called "SM 7419 - Outlook 2019 MAPI not processing Rules consistently?" - I don't seem to have the rights to link it here).
