Cloudflare support
Question asked by Yannick Guerdat - 7/31/2023 at 6:13 AM

Hello,

Could you tell me if the Smartertrack solution is already up and running and compatible with Cloudflare, respectively behind their WAF (Proxy-status) and not just via the DNS redirect.

This would enable us to harden our infrastructure correctly behind Cloudflare.

From past experience, there are often problems with JavaScript, respectively WebSockets or page reprocessing.

If you have any documentation, I'd be glad to receive it.

Thanks for your feedback

Hello Yannick! At this time I'm not sure what level of support we can get with CloudFlare as its been a few years now since I last tested it. You are correct though that their WAF and proxy functionality usually leads to problems with javascript and other web interface components.

I still have this functionality available to me though so I turned it on for one of our test SmarterTrack installs and ran into some initial SSL related troubles so will need to do some more testing on this before I can provide updated guidance. Are you open to me creating a ticket for us just so I can keep this one on my radar?

Hello Kyle,

Thanks for your message, of course with pleasure to open a support ticket for this request. I think it could help a lot of your customers who are already using this type of service, which is likely to increase over the next few years.

You're very welcome Yannick! I agree, and we recently started using some of CloudFlare's services so this is a good time to reevaluate whether it is a good fit or not for SmarterTrack and our other products.

Hey Yannick! Just following up here in case others are interested in our testing results. I completed a full round of testing under a Cloudflare proxy and while I ran into some initial issues getting SSL working between CF and my test environment; I was able to get it running behind that proxy. I tested basic ticket functionality, KB usage, Live Chat interaction and updates, etc and found no obvious issues. So, at this point I can't say that I see any issues that should prevent you from testing Cloudflare against your environment specifically. If you do run into any questions along the way please don't hesitate to ping us as we'd be happy to take a look. Have a good one!
