Outlook MAPI Account is Constantly Syncing
Problem reported by Michael - 5/19/2023 at 11:09 AM

We're seeing issue where older accounts with lots of mail, lots of contacts, and lots of calendar events are constantly syncing in Outlook. We've removed the account, resynced etc. But on each sync still it syncs forever. It's says "This folder is up to date" but also it says it's syncing the account... So we're not sure what's syncing and it's not obvious in the Sync logs in Outlook OR the MAPI logs in SM as to what the issue is. My best guess is encoding issues on Calendar Events or Contacts, but it's a guess and we're not sure where to hunt further. Anyone else seeing behavior like this since updating to Build 8495 or greater?

Try setting your users sync to 3 month, that has cured sync issues with others, at least until the actual problem with MAPI sync is fixed.

We are seeing a different issue whereas some users' Outlook disconnects from the "Microsoft Exchange" Server and the status line has the text "Need Password". Once you click on the status bar in this area Outlook reconnects for a period of time and then disconnects again.

Try this on their pc's. Exchange the version number with  their current version.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover]
"ExcludeExplicitO365Endpoint"=dword:00000001
"ExcludeHttpRedirect"=dword:00000001
"ExcludeHttpsRootDomain"=dword:00000001
"ExcludeScpLookup"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\AutoDiscover\RedirectServers]
"Your.servernename.com"=hex(0):

To Brian Bjerring-Jensen: Does this apply to my disconnect issue? What does these registry settings attempt to solve?

It solves the "need passord" issue since that comes from MIcrosoft Office365 trying to sign up....

Why is Outlook try to sign in with O365? I recently found out that while I had all of Autodiscover DNS entries correct, I was missing the redirect from the Web Site.  Still only one user for customer is having an issue. In addition, these users are on an RDS Server so one could imagine that it would affect everyone's Outlook on the RDS but it is not. I think I read something about Outlook has an XML Cache for Autodiscover data. Myabe this one user is Autodiscover stuck?

Check under Credentials Manager for that peticular user. If he has an SSO for Microsoft ONline, Autodiscovery pools that before anything else.
Its built into the newer versions of office to get your data....
