Drag n drop recipients between To, CC and BCC
Idea shared by Jaime Alvarez - 4/5/2023 at 1:16 PM
Under Consideration
New SM is great, but there is a feature that many of our users have asked for.

To be able to Drag n drop recipients between To, CC and BCC (like Gmail).
Would this be possible in a future release? Thanks.

ST team, any comments on this?  I believe this would be a great enhancement for the user's UI.

Hey Jaime,

Thanks for reaching out with this feature request. I think it sounds really interesting but I do have a few questions.
  1. How do you propose that users would know that fields are drag and dropable besides past experience from another product? Would there need to be a visual cue do you think or would it be something that you'd only know if you read the docs?
  2. Something that we strive for is consistency in the interface. Are there any other areas in SmarterMail that currently have something similar to this?
  3. If we did implement this what other areas do you think would benefit from having drag and dropable fields like this?
Having answers to these questions would help me write a better feature request.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards,

Great questions.  Here are my thoughts.
  1. How do you propose that users would know that fields are drag and droppable besides past experience from another product? Would there need to be a visual cue do you think or would it be something that you'd only know if you read the docs?
I really dont think docs are needed. This is a very intuitive feature.  Actually, with the new interface design in which each recipient is inside a circular box (like gmail, apple mail, mail in iphones, etc.), I really thought it was possible to drag and drop, but its not. :(

  2. Something that we strive for is consistency in the interface. Are there any other areas in SmarterMail that currently have something similar to this?
Not identical to what I propose in recipients, but talking about dragging capabilities... at some point back in time, the calendar appointments could not be dragged and dropped in order to move them and reschedule them.  Now it's possible.  I do not remember when this was implemented but it is very intuitive and I believe everyone like it.  You even allow now to "pull down" an appointment to extend its time.  This is awesome!

  3. If we did implement this what other areas do you think would benefit from having drag and dropable fields like this?
At this time, I really can't think of another area where you could apply this, but for instance I just saw the button to add Attendees to a meeting that opens a window with the contact lists and I found that very odd. It doesn't have search capabilities (in this window) so the user would have to scroll down to find a person to add to the meeting, and the way to "activate" each attendee to add it with that type of button wasn't very intuitive.  We could maybe drag and drop attendees too.
Having said this, the importance of doing this in an email is that it is the only are where you can "organize" people into different fields (to, cc and bcc) and sometimes you get an email with many people involved and when replying you want to re-organize them and deleting them and re-adding them in a different field is not great.

    Look forward to your comments.
