Various issues with Mailbox Migration - MS Exchange
Problem reported by Gabriele Maoret - SERSIS - 2/24/2023 at 3:45 AM
Submitted
SmarterMail Enterprise Build 8454

There are some issues in Mailbox Migration - MS Exchange:

1 - I want to migrate only Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes (cause I wanna use Email Retrieval for them...):

With the settings as in the image above, it still migrates the Emails ignoring my setting.

2 - I cannot STOP Maibox Migration:

If I click on the Cancel button on the image above, it stops for a few seconds and then restart the migration again.
I have tryied it many times without success...

3 - the TASKS migration is not complete:

You can see in the image below (OWA webaccess) taht my MS Exchange account has two TASK items under "Flagged items and tasks" (the ToDo list that is populated by the flagged EMAILS...):

As you can see below, these tasks are not migrated to SmarterMail:

UPDATE: Problem number 2 (Can't STOP Maibox migration) persists even if you delete the user, wait a few hours and then recreate the user with the same name!!!!

After doing that you can enter the NEWLY CREATED user and see that the migration is still in progress:

UPDATE 2: After deleting the test user again and this time restarting the system as well, issues number 1 and 2 seem to have been resolved...

I'll do more tests to make sure the previous problems were just an isolated case

why are such bugs not taken into account by the development. The whole beta phase will soon last 6 months, 4 of them more or less accessible for testing, and there are still essential bugs and still no stable version in sight.

- When will these bugs be fixed?
- When will a stable version be available?

Looking at your tasks issue, I suspect this is working correctly. Exchange and Outlook have a "To Do List" in the tasks area that shows not only tasks, but also flagged emails and contacts. Looking at your screenshots, it appears that the items you see in Exchange are flagged email messages, and not actual tasks. This is why they do not appear in the tasks area in SmarterMail after you migrate the account.

Hi Andrew!

Yeah, those are part of the "to do list" created flagging e-mail in the Outlook interface.
The same appens if you flag e-mails in the OWA Webmail of MS Exchange, so in Exchange it doesen't matter if you use MS Outlook or the OWA webmail... They are function equivalent.

The point is: if I migrate an account from MS Exchange to SmarterMail, I wanto to migrate ALL the data, without losing functions.

Yes, I know that I can migrate the TO DO LIST exporting it in a PST file from Outlook and then import it again when Outlook is connected to SmarterMail, but this can't be done manually for hundreds of mail accounts...

The To Do list in the Exchange and Outlook interfaces is simply a filtered view of tasks, flagged emails, and flagged contacts. It is not an actual folder on the server. Flagged emails shown in the To Do list are not stored as tasks, and so SmarterMail's migration process cannot retrieve them as tasks.

In addition, the task area in SmarterMail only displays tasks and does not include a feature similar to the To Do list for displaying flagged messages and contacts. However, if you retrieve the messages for the account - using either a migration or message retrieval account - and connect the SmarterMail account to Outlook Windows using MAPI or Outlook Mac using EWS, those flagged messages will be shown in the client's To Do list.

Hi Andrew!

So if I connect to SmarterMail with EM Client or MS Outlook I should be able to se the todo list, right?
It's only in SmarterMail WebMail that's I can't see it, right?

I will give it a try...
