Backup Smartermail Storage NAS
Question asked by Nathan McKAy - 6/8/2022 at 7:55 AM
Rethinking backups and all, and got to wondering--With all the moving parts of Smartermail, how do you make safe/correct backups of Smartermail when your NAS doesn't support VSS and you don't want to shut down Smartermail for backups

As it is right now, we Rsync the data folder from one nas to another, but I theorize that it is totally possible that a JSON could get changed "Out of step" with the Rsync and lead to a improper backup.

Hey Nathan,

Thanks for reaching out to the community.
For this instance, I would recommend using Hobocopy. If you're using FreeNAS just create an NFS pool. Then using this documentation.

Or alternatively, you could use.

Backup your SmarterMail files to the NFS network drive.

Please let me know if this helps.

Kind Regards,
