Need Advice - Notification of High Outgoing Mail volumes
Question asked by Stephen Smith - 4/25/2022 at 1:38 PM
Answered
Greetings.  I am a moderately capable, but still novice SmarterMail administrator.  I am in need of a way of being notified when the outgoing mail volume of our entire set of boxes exceeds a certain amount each hour (let's say 2000 message in one hour).

Is there a way of getting an email notice to the Admin box if outgoing message volume is above that level?

Here is our environ:
  • win 2018 server
  • iis 10
  • SmarterMail Build 7090 (2019) SmarterMail Professional Version - 100.0.7090

I have looked thru the SM help files, but only finding articles for older version, that do not match screens.

Many thanks,
Stephen

Hello Stephen, its a pleasure to meet you and we're happy to have you here. You should be able to set this up in SmarterMail within Settings>Events (when logged in as a system administrator) where you'll find a variety of system categories you can use including Spool Count which will trigger based on overall outgoing message volume. Additionally, I recommend enabling Domain/User Throttling here as this should prevent too many messages going out before you're alerted to the issue. I hope this helps :-)

Kyle,  thank you.   For the second part of your comment:   I recommend enabling Domain/User Throttling here

I am not seeing that in the Settings>Events area.  Could you clarify or include a screenshot?

Many thanks,
Stephen

You are very welcome, I'm happy to help out! Those settings are in the domain's settings specifically, rather than under Settings>Events. You should see them here:

Hi Stephen,

In regards to the help articles referring to older versions, if you go to https://help.smartertools.com/ and click on the big SmarterMail icon, this will take you to the current online help. Additionally, if you use the knowledge base, be sure you are not selecting any articles in the "Previous Versions" folders.
