Delete User Stats does not work
Problem reported by Thomas Nielsen - 12/2/2014 at 7:09 AM
Not A Problem
Hi

I recently changed the "Delete User Stats After" option in Settings-> General Settings from 13 months to 5 months. After a couple of days I noticed that there is still a lot of files named

2014.4.stat3
2014.5.stat3
2014.6.stat3

I was expecting those file to be deleted to free up disk space, but it does not seems to work. With 15.000+ users it is a lot of disk space those files are using.

Any help would be appreciated.

Greetings,

I was able to replicate this same behavior within my test environment. This certainly looks like a bug. As a result I've marked this issue as known issue and I will report this to our developers for correction.

If any further information is required I will reach out.

I've heard back from our developers on this, I may have been mistaken.

The deletion of user statistics only occurs once per month. So you would need to wait a month since the last time the cleaner had ran in order to see these files purged. This functionality has been confirmed and is working with SmarterMail 13 as designed.

At this time there is not a way to 'Force' the deletion to take place prior to the month being over since the last scan was ran.

I hope this helps clarify.

Hi Again

That explains why I don't see any changes. To be fair I am still running SmarterMail version 12, but expect to upgrade to version 13 soon.

Would it be safe to delete the files manual to free up some disk space or should I wait for the cleaner to kick in?

Best regards
Thomas

You can feel free to delete these manually, it will not have a negative impact in your environment.

Hi again

I just upgraded SmarterMail to version 13.1 just to make sure this issue was not related to an older version of SmarterMail. I have changed my settings to only keep the files for 3 months, but still have files for 5 months on my disk.

My question now is, when can I expect the cleanup to run the next time, if it only run once a month? Will it be running 1 th. each month or is it just some random day each month?

Best Regards
Thomas

Thomas,

If you look in the mailConfig.xml, there are several settings related to stat clean up.  Do a search for "statCleanerLastCompletionDate".  As the name implies, it is the last time the stat cleaner ran.  When the server, domain, and user stat cleanup runs next will be based on this date.  If you want it to run sooner, stop the mail service, change the "statCleanerLastCompletionDate" to a past date and restart your server.  It should force a stat cleanup.

Thanks Robert. My "StatCleanerLastCompletionDate" says. 01-01-2015 I will let you know if it still doesn't work the next time.

Hi again

It works now :-)
I guess upgrading to version 13.1 was all that needed to make it do an auto cleanup. First I tried to make the change in mailConfig.xml but that did not went well. In fact I was not able to start the webservice after I made the change to the xml file. Not sure if I got the date format wrong, but I changed it back to the way it was and restarted the service.

Anyway, the other day the service started the cleanup by Schedule and it worked like expected.
