POP/SMTP VS MAPI/SMTP
Question asked by Vahn Babigian - 8/20/2021 at 1:13 PM
Answered
With a pc set to accept/send email via POP/SMTP vs a pc set to receive/send email via MAPI should the outbound email sent by the POP/SMTP pc be visible in the sent folder of the MAPI pc? If not, is there a way to set all outbound email from a POP/SMTP client so that someone accessing the same email account via MAPI can see those outbound emails?

The best way is to COMPLETELY disable POP protocol...
POP3 is not able to sync sent mails
This is by design on RFC....
Not  a SmarterMail fault, it's POP3/SMTP  protocol that is like that by design in EVERY Mail Server.

We simply do not offer POP3 to our customers... It's disabled on server level...

Hello Vahn,

To add to what @Gabriele said. POP3 does ZERO syncing between the server, This will only DOWNLOAD and can not UPLOAD at all.

For full details, you can review the RFC ( https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc1081

One option when using a POP3 account is to "leave message on server" and most clients give you further options for the number of days to leave on server ( this can be disabled to always leave on server ).

This option will still not do anything with the Sent Items though. YOu best bet is to stop using POP3 as mentioned. As a system admin you can disable this option.

Or you can disable the option per user

I hope this helps. Thank you
