Autodiscover Smartermail v 15.7
Question asked by Shoaib Nawaz - 1/15/2021 at 6:54 AM
Unanswered
Hi,
I would like to setup autodiscover for my 20 hosted domains on smartermail.
I follow the article 'https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a3179/set-up-autodiscover-for-smartermail.aspx', but it said 'Mobile devices (iOS, Android, Windows) will only return Exchange ActiveSync'.
- I want to configure mobile devices on IMAP automatically. I have full access to DNS etc
- Can I configure multiple domains on one host URL means autodiscover will run on one URL. all domain users using webmail.domain.com to access the emails.
Someone, please help me.

Someone, please reply to my query. Do we need to upgrade the smartermail version into the latest build to work the autodiscover with mobile phones.

At least if you upgrade, you will get support from SmarterTools directly.

Sorry, but you are on a too old release, I can't help you cause I don't know those old releases
Gabriele Maoret - Head of SysAdmins at SERSIS Currently manages 6 SmarterMail installations (1 in the cloud for SERSIS which provides services to a few hundred third-party email domains + 5 on-premise for customers who prefer to have their mail server in-house)

Hi Gabriele and EchoDreamz.
Thanks for your reply. I am waiting for Smatrermail technician reply and their suggestion.
If Autodiscover worked on the phone with v15.7, I would like to save the cost of upgrading.

This isnt a support medium, their forums are mainly for user-to-user support. Your best bet is to upgrade to a supported version of SmarterMail so you can contact SmarterTools for support.

We use the latest version and have no issues with autodiscover across desktop and mobile.

"- Can I configure multiple domains on one host URL means autodiscover will run on one URL. all domain users using webmail.domain.com to access the emails."

That's my setup and always have been. Now I am on the latest version of smartermail of course, but I had no problems users connecting to my server with imap or eas with the hostname of the server mail.soko.nl in the previous versions.
Make sure the certificate is correctly installed and binded to the corresponding ports.
you can make srv records for imap and imaps

Example: service record

    _imap._tcp SRV 0 1 143 imap.example.com.

Example: service record

    _imaps._tcp SRV 0 1 993 imap.example.com.

Hi Richard,
Thank you so much for your reply and honestly, I really appreciate it. Everyone suggest me to upgrade the SM but I want to make sure that autodiscover is working fine this version and future version also. I need to tell my boss that autodiscover is working fine and we need to upgrade the software for better connectivity etc.

- I am facing account coniguration (automatically) on mobile phones. Could you please help me to resolve this issue?
Desktop outlook is working fine on autodiscovery. Previoulsy I created only one SRV record _autodiscover._tcp 0 0 443 webmail.domain.com
- I didnt create autodiscover.example.com record because when outlook open it will give certificate error because certificate configure on webmail.domain.com
- As per your suggestion I created two SRV record for IMAP. Please review the below image.
- Certficate (webmail.domain.com) is installed and working properly.
- I assign TLS-SSL against certificate. Please review the below image.
-When i am trying to configure phone outlook (Android 10.0). It try to connect with exchange active sync instead of IMAP.  I Enter the credential but obviously its not working. Please review the below images.
If I change the account type and select IMAP. Enter all the information manually to account configured without any issue. IMAP configure with TLS and SSL without any issue.

I am also sharing my Smartermail Protocols setting. Please review it and let me know do I have to make any changes.

What port i need to define in SMTP in

My answer was more for that you can have 1 domain name for all domains that you host
EAS does work, when setup correctly, your login settings on the phone are okey.
do you have EAS licenses with this SM and have you enabled EAS for your account?
I've never used automatic configuration for imap, on phones. It's a very simple setup.

If you're upgrading to v17, then you need mapi/ews license and EAS licenses.
for me it's a prefect combo.
I've always used port 587 for incoming submission, with imap.
You won't need that for mapi/eas combo, you probably know that.

I can't answer if you can setup imap automatically on the device. It also depends on the client.
