Renew Certificate But SSL Port Binding is not working
Question asked by Shoaib Nawaz - 1/6/2021 at 1:30 PM
Unanswered
Hi,
I am using SmaterMail V15.7. Tomorrow my certificate is going to expire, so I purchased a new certificate (Sectigo SSL). Follow this article (https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a3195/configure-ssl-tls-to-secure-smartermail.aspx) just like did the last year.
Please review the below image certificate path is correct.
Problem:
- I am not able to configure any outlook with SSL or TLS Ports.
- Existing outlook users start receiving below error message. Please review the 2nd image.
- I already stop and start the service. Restart the server.

Please help me to resolve this issue. I start receiving calls from users that outlook is not working.

Hello and thanks for your post here. I am sorry to hear you're having trouble connecting from Outlook after renewing your certificate. Can I have you try exporting the newly renewed certificate as a PFX file with a strong password, then update your port bindings with this file and password before retesting? If you continue to have trouble with this please submit a ticket with support and we'd be happy to investigate further.

Hi Kyle,
Thanks for the reply.
The article (https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a3195/configure-ssl-tls-to-secure-smartermail.aspx) said that "Save as a base64 x509 .cer file". Did I miss any step?
I believe there is no option in version 15.7 to enter the password with PFX file. Please confirm if I am wrong.
Also could you please share the complete steps?

Shoaib, you're very welcome. You did not miss any steps, but the PFX export works better in some cases. SmarterMail v15 does support the password field, but you have to enter the path to the PFX before it will show up. I don't have complete steps on this unfortunately as it pertains to the Windows environment. I hope this helps out!

Hi Kyle,
Thanks for the suggestion. I export the certificate again but CER format.
Assign the path on the ports. Stop/Start the Smartermail Mail service.
This time everything is working fine. Including Outlook (TLS/SSL) and mobile phones.
Thanks again for the reply.
