User language propagation
Problem reported by BMark - 10/17/2020 at 4:58 PM
Not A Problem
Dear Support, is it possible to propagate the users' language?
We are doing an upgrade test from vers. 16 to 100.0.7593.31148, and we have seen that the English language is automatically set as the default for users, instead of the previous version being set.
We tried to propagate manually in "Users Default" but there is no "language" entry.
Thank you
Mark

Hello ST,

After update to 7593 from 7544, it looks to me (but i'm not 100% sure) that all users have their language set back to english.
To verify this I wanted to use the API to check all users but I'm not sure which field to check ?

"dictionaryLanguage": text,
Could it be this one from userMailSettings ?

Also in the case the language was really set back to english for our users, I would like to set it back using the API, but I can't find a corresponding field in updateUser.

It looks to me this can't be done through the propagation tool.

Can you shed some light on how to do this ?

Thanks a lot.

BMark -

When changing a users language, either from the administrative interface or from the user's settings page, SmarterMail checks for potential folder name conflicts. For example, an account that is configured to English will have the default folders Inbox, Drafts, Deleted Items, Junk Email, and Sent Items. If the user creates a folder named "Courrier Indésirable", which is the language string for Junk Email in French, and then tries to change their language to French, SmarterMail will prevent the change because it would cause a folder name conflict.

Propagating the language setting to users would make it difficult to properly implement the same checks and notify the administrator which users were not properly updated due to these conflicts. Because of these complications, we decided to not allow propagating the Language setting to existing users.

Hi Andrew,

thank you for your explanation,
however, the problem occurs during the upgrade from version 16 where all users have been set in English (instead of the set language).
Consider that practically only one language is used for all current users, and many of whom have no folders other than those created by default by SM and the mail program.

So how should we proceed to upgrade and set the correct language for all users?

Hello Andrew,

Thank you. I've missed the field when checking the docs. Is there a list of valid localeId available somewhere?

Kind regards.
