is it possible to create hyperlink to file using file:///server

Hi,

Our document controller tries to create hyperlink to files stored in our central file storage server.

using the function hyperlink in webmail will convert the link from \\servername\\file.txt or file:///servername/file.txt to  http://servername/file.txt instead.

can this be done using smartermail webmail interface? if not, is there different approach to link files into email without attached the file itself or using the storage feature in smartermail.

We are running smartermail v16.
