[BETA 7314] IMAP on Outlook for Mac delayed set-up
Problem reported by Alex Clarke - 1/13/2020 at 3:35 AM
Resolved
When adding an IMAP account to Outlook for Mac the "Set Up your Email" window remains on the screen (with the spinning wheel to the right of the "Add Account" button).

You can see the emails slowly loading in the Outlook window behind.

This doesn't happen for all users. I've also been able to replicate the issue on different machines.

Normal behaviour is for this window to dissappear after a few seconds and then the mailbox would sync in the background.

Anyone else seeing this?

Thank you for reporting this. As of yet, we have been unable to replicate but we will continue to try. I will add this to our bugs list. If you can think of anything abnormal about these accounts, please respond here and let me know so that we can narrow our search.

The account in question has a few large (2GB) GRP files in various folders.

However, it's also suffering from a .json filter creation issue that your support team are currently working on.

We've downgraded to build 7262 and I test this again shortly.

We have a similar issue, user reports that Outlook seems to sync forever. New emails come in, but Outlook sync progress window always shows it is syncing with no progress changes.

The original issue I was talking about was when you add a new account and the system seems to hang (i.e. the new account window remains on the screen).

Once the account has been added (if this window disappears) then we don’t seem to see any issues.

Hi Alex Clarke , what version is 7262? Is it a more stable version (if not using MAPI) than 73xx?
And is it possible to downgrade from 7314 without issue?

If the answers are "yes", where can I find it?

DO NOT DOWNGRADE TO A PRE-MAPI BUILD! IF YOU DO, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SUPPORT YOUR SERVER MOVING FORWARD!  WE MADE THIS CLEAR DURING THE BETA AND iT'S WHY WE WANTED EVERYONE TO INSTALL ON TEST MACHINES  BEFORE INSTALLING THE PRODUCTION BETA!

Every file on the server except .GRP files has changed and pre-MAPI versions will not know how to load or re-write files which will result in EXCEPTIONS, MISSING EMAILS and unknown behavior.  Mail clients will not properly sync because clients are EXTREMELY dependent on sync keys and sync states, and everything will be lost.

A server that has been downgraded might look like its running for a short-while but that is because things are in memory.  Every time the service is stopped and started more and more data could be lost.

We are releasing BETA's weekly (if not same day) if there are server wide breaking issues. Developers have been very responsive in the community while requesting more information in private messages.

Just as a modified vehicle won't be warrantied, we can't help customers that don't follow our instructions.  There is no way to recover your files if you do this.

Hi Tim, thanks for pointing this out!

My questions were directed precisely to have a clarification on this point, because I did not know the release 7262 and I was not sure if it was compatible with the "production ready" Beta

Tim,

Perhaps updating the installer with a big fat warning they have to agree to would help some? So peeps see clearly this is it dude, you upgrade to this build and you absolutely 100% cannot downgrade... are you sure you want to continue?
