Impersonate doesn't seem to work
Problem reported by Thomas Leylan - 10/30/2019 at 5:23 PM
Resolved
SmarterMail Free Edition Build 7188. I've logged in as the admin. Tab on right reads "Impersonate", dialog appears, I enter postmaster's account. Chrome browser opens a new tab named "Untitled" and displays "Loading..." if I hover over it. Address Bar displays "about:blank" and that's all that happens.

What can I do or try? Thanks.

Thomas,

First, I'd advise upgrading to the most current public release, which is 7236. If that doesn't fix the issue, please let us know.

Hi Derek,

I upgraded SmarterMail Free Edition Build 7236 (Oct 24, 2019). Same issue. Did anyone report that impersonation didn't work in the version I had? Has anyone verified that it works on the version I have installed now?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,

I tested this on both 7188 and 7236 and had no trouble impersonating, using the Impersonate button.  I tested in both Chrome and Edge.  What browser are you using?  If you are trying to impersonate the domain administrator are you able to do so by clicking on the domain in the Manage menu, then click the Manage button?

Hi Emily,

I'm logged in as the admin and trying to impersonate the non-admin accounts. I typically use Chrome but I just tried it in Edge and that worked.

I do have ad blockers installed on Chrome but have them disabled for my email-related sites. Still it could that Ghostery is causing the issue since that is not running in Edge. I'll experiment some more now that I know it works.

Thanks,
Tom

Alright I found it. Apparently settings cookies was blocked in Chrome. I allowed cookies and impersonation is working now.
