Hello

We have a lot of clients which still use unsecured mail access and some which use it over the lecacy ports like imaps over 993 and so on.

now i saw with smartermail 16 i can configure imap over port 143 on the same ip like i also configure it tiwh imap TLS on port 143 on the same ip.

but it does not work. only the nonsecured connection will than work.

best regards chris

Hi Chris. I want to make sure I understand what you are asking. Are you saying your want TLS and non-TLS on the same ports? If yes, then yes, this is actually how TLS is usually set up.

You would set up 25, 110, 143 and 587 with TLS and an SSL certificate. Let's say that your SSL cert covers only the domain mail.example.com. When your users are waiting to use SSL/TLS, they would need to use mail.example.com as their incoming and outgoing host names in their mail client such as Outlook with the TLS ports. If they want unsecure (non-SSL/TLS) they would use their own host name, for example, mail.customerdomain.com with the same ports that TLS uses and that would give them an unsecure connection. I hope this helps. Please let me know if I am understanding you correctly. Thanks!

Hello Linda

Many thanks for your answer. yes my question was if we can use port 143,587,110 for both unsecure and secure. i allways did setup it wrong in smartermail. i setup for example the port 143 without TLS and a second binding with TLS and that was not working. i did not know that with the port setup as TLS both will work. of course with the right name and certificate.
