Hello,

I never tried it, but in the General settings of the server you can enable a "Footer" and allow domains to override the default footer.

That's maybe what you should try.

You should maybe enable this like in this screenshot (general settings).

and leave the general footer to "None" and then you should be able to set a footer on a domain level, probably by impersonating the domain administrator of the domain.

Again, I've not tried it personnally, but looks like it might help in your case.

Kind regards

Is there any way to enable footer only for outgoing emails?

Does it really applies to incoming mail too ?

From documentation it says it's for outgoing mails:

Footer - Add a message footer that appends all outgoing messages

But strangely later in the documentation page it says:

Footer

If the Administrator has enabled footer customization for the domain, Domain Administrators can configure server-wide message footers that SmarterMail will append on all incoming and outgoing messages. Although similar to signatures, message footers are typically used to convey disclaimers or provide additional information. For example, an administrator may want every message to include a notice that the message was scanned for viruses or the text "Sent by SmarterMail."

So yes I'm a bit lost here :/

Yes, it applies to incoming emails as well, which is really strange.

Hello everyone,

I'm currently looking into this setting and the online help description to get clarification on how this should be working.  I'll update you when I have more information.

The disclaimer message should append only to outgoing messages and not incoming messages.

I've done more testing and here is what I found so far:

If the system setting for footers is enabled for all messages, the system level footer should be appended to all outgoing and incoming emails across the server.  However, the domain level footer should only append to outgoing messages.  So if you do NOT want the footer appended to incoming messages you will need toggle off the system setting "Enable for all messages" in Settings > General > Footer, make sure "Domains can override footer" is toggled on as well.  As the domain administrator you will then need to toggle on "Override footer settings for this domain" and "Enable footer for all messages".  This is done in Domain Settings > General > Footer.

We are still testing how the footer should behave in several different scenarios, but I wanted to get you the basic information to get you started.

Hi everyone!

I've completed testing the footers and here is what I've found:

If you have the system footer enabled for all messages the following should occur:
  • New outgoing messages: yes (if domain is not overriding)
  • New incoming messages: yes
  • Forwards that already have a footer on original message:
    • Received in SmarterMail: yes
    • Sent from SmarterMail: does not add a new footer to the message
  • Forwards that do not have a footer on original message:
    • Received in SmarterMail: yes
    • Sent from SmarterMail: yes
    • Mailing lists: yes. anyone message sent to a mailing list, whether sent from SmarterMail or another server, will use the system footer.
If you have the system footer disabled for all messages, but the domain footer enabled for all messages the following should occur:
  • New outgoing messages: yes
  • New incoming: no
  • Forwards that have a footer already on original message: no
    • Domain footer should never be on forwarded messages sent to SmarterMail, as domain footers are only on outgoing messages.
  • Forwards sent from SmarterMail that do not have a footer: yes
  • Replies from SmarterMail: yes, adds the footer below the original message
  • Replies to SmarterMail: no
  • Mailing lists: yes. anyone message sent to a mailing list, whether sent from SmarterMail or another server, will use the domain footer.
As I mentioned in my last post, if the system footer is enabled for all messages and the domain footer is enabled for all messages, then the outgoing messages listed above will use the domain footer, while any incoming messages will use the system footer.

Let me know if you have any quesitons!
