Blocked Senders Not Working in Build 7090

The Blocked Senders Spam Filtering in SmarterMail Build 7090 does not appear to be working.

For example, if you select the Spam Filtering Action for Blocked Senders to 'Move to Junk Email Folder', the email from the Blocked Senders arrives in your Inbox with the Spam Filtering action ignored.

Bruce, can you post the headers from the received message devoid of anything specific to your environment? I'm curious what spam headers were applied to the finalized message. This can be found by opening the message in webmail, clicking the ... menu and choosing View Raw Content. Thanks!

A little difficult as we have 12,000 + mailboxes and this issue is being reported by quite a number of customers but do not have the headers.

It seems to be a general bug with Blocked Senders.

As Kyle mentioned, you need to double check the headers or delivery log for one of those emails to ensure that the from address is the address that should be blocked.

Spammers can send mail from abc@abc.com with a return address of ishouldbeblocked@spam.com and smartermail wont block it as the from address doesnt match the block rule.

I have found one in my own mailbox.

Here is a header for an email from a company called @mailsbestfriend.com that keep sending spam to my mailbox and the email shows in smartermail with 'Blocked Sender' next to the email address to confirm the sender is blocked, but instead of ending up in the junk folder is going to the inbox.

The headers show that Declude for some reason is whitelisting the email.

Declude is from mailsbestfriend.com so wouldn't surprise me if they whitelist their domain in the product.

Bruce, I am with Mail's Best Friend. What spam are you receiving from us? Lisa Hall is one of our account reps. The only things she would be sending to you are renewal reminders for your SmarterTools products or if you have Message Sniffer with us, she would also send you reminders about renewing it as well. We resell for both SmarterTools and Arm Research. If you do not wish to be reminded about your renewals, please let me know what your email address is and I will gladly ask her to remove you from our reminder schedule. If you received actual spam from her, please send me the full header and I will review and resolve. Also, Dave is correct. We do whitelist our own domain so that you can always receive mail from us.Thanks.

Bruce, I just checked our records and I see that we have been sending you renewal reminders for your SmarterTools products since 2013 and we never received any notification from you that you did not want these reminders. You were a Declude customer from back in the day when Declude the company still existed. David Barker and I worked for Declude, the company, for a very long time. When the company closed, we started a new company called Mail's Best Friend and purchased the property rights for all things Declude. We also became a SmarterTools and Arm Research reseller. Since you were a previous customer of Declude, we started sending you reminders about your SmarterTools products out of courtesy. We wanted to extend our reseller discount to you. Sorry for the late reply I have just seen this now.

I can see from my past emails that I sent you an email in 2015 asking you how you got my email address.

I also sent an email to SmarterMail at the time asking if they had given you my details, and they replied on 15th June 2015;

" When Declude went out of business Mail's Best Friend purchased Declude's intellectual property rights, which included their customer list that they sold to directly.  It is likely they got your information from that customer list. "

I am still unclear how you got my details or how you know when my SmartTools license expires, but please remove me from your lists.

Thanks for your response Bruce. I sincerely apologize for not removing you from our list when you asked back in 2015. I can't find any record of you asking, but I believe what you are telling me. I just removed you from our records today. Again, I'm not sure why you are unclear about how we had your information. I already explained that in my previous response above. We had your info from back in the days of Declude and we were just trying to help you out by offering you a discount on your renewals. Our email was not malicious in any way. We always try to help our valued customers save a few bucks. Thanks for letting me know about this and you will not receive any emails from us going forward. Take care!
