SmarterMail 7053 - Deleted Mailbox, Crashed Service, Other people missing emails
Question asked by Tim DeMeza - 5/17/2019 at 7:30 AM
Answered
I had a user that had a 9.5GB mailbox.  User is no longer needed, so I decided to delete the mailbox.  Smartermail seemed to be working for a long time (10 minutes) then I got reports of the WebUI not responding, then the service crashed.

I restarted the service and then I had some other users (including myself) have missing emails.  For example, I only have 4 emails in my inbox, I should have thousands.  I went to the mail store (on disk) and everything is there.  All the .grp files etc.

How can I recover the missing emails so that they show back up in the UI?

And should the mail service crash when deleting a large mailbox?

Is there a better way?

Thank you!

Hi Tim! First, the service shouldn't crash when deleting larger mailboxes, but if the server is limited on resources I could see this causing performance issues at the very least. Next, to recover the contents of your inbox you can try deleting the mailbox.cfg file in the Inbox folder on your account with the SmarterMail service stopped, then start it up and check for inbox completion. If you continue to have issues with that I suggest submitting a support ticket so we can check this out. Thanks for reading. Have a great weekend!
