Pre 17.x conversion - does it need additional space for new indexes during conversion?

Hello,

I'm thinking about moving from v15 to v17 (while keeping v16 as gateways because of Declude issue) and I'm wondering about space needed during conversion process. There is nothing mentioned here:

about additional space needed or not during conversion process so I would like to know this before I start whole migration.

Thanks

It will require more space. We move users gradually to the new index until they are fully indexed on the new system before we delete the old index. That way they can continue searching their mailboxes without interruption. During the upgrade process you could potentially delete these "Index" folders from users and it would immediately start using the new index for all users if that was desired.

Is it safe to delete the Index folders before updating to SM 17? I mean, with SM 16, stop SM service, delete all Index folders for all users, then upgrade to SM 17.

Would there be any issues for the update procedure this way? I understand that in this case all mailboxes will have to be re-indexed with the new index format, but that will happen anyway.

Yes is it safe to remove, however for a period of time some user's searches will not function.

Yes, I figured as much. Anyway, the users that would complain the most use Outlook.. So hopefully by the morning there will be enough users with the new index so as to avoid major complaints..
