SmarterMail Domain Administrator Restrictions
Question asked by Jade D - 12/6/2018 at 7:49 AM
Answered
I havent dug too deep so excuse my ignorance if this has been asked or documented, but is there a way to limit the functions that are available to smartermail domain administrators?
We allow our clients to create domain administrators via web based control panels and the primary reason is that it allows them to perform reporting of disk usage, the negative is that it allows them to add and remove mail accounts.

Can we limit the functions that domain admins have?

The domain administrator is considered to be the person who should and could fix ANYTHING for that domain.  The control panels can't provide all the SPAM, Security, Domain Level Calendars, Signatures, Archiving, and so much more.  This is why its critical that you have a Domain Administrator that has access to the SmarterMail Web Interface.

If your looking to provide a person some reports or data, we have API's available and you could build pages that show EXACTLY what your looking for to a specific subset of people.

Hi Tim

Thanks for the response. Ideally we'd like to restrict what can and cant be done, ie adding and deleting mail accounts.
Even if this could be configured via one of smartermail's configuration files that would be great...

Regarding the API, is the documentation complete for the latest version and who is the best to direct API queries to?

Hey Jade, we only have a single role type for domain admins so there's not a way to restrict users in a config/json file.  In regards to the API, the documentation is not complete and only a few of the API sections have been documented.
