Sending as email aliases via different domains

We just recently upgraded from SM15 to SM16 and were excited to learn about the "send as alias feature", unfortunately, it only works with the primary domain and not domain aliases so we still have to setup tons of SMTP accounts. For example, we have 4 brands (branda.com, brandb.com, brandc.com, and brandd.com) but b, c, and d are just aliases of a. We also have email aliases like "accounting@" that goes to our 4 accountants. In SM15 we had to setup "accounting@" as a real user instead of an alias and then setup 4 SMTP accounts for each user. In SM16, we can make it an alias, but in the web interface the users can only send out as accounting@branda.com and now as the other 3. :'(

Thank you for the feedback, Adam! I've forwarded this suggestion to the development team, and I'll post any updates I hear.

Hello Adam,

I've heard back from the development team that this feature will not be implemented at this time. The current functionality will allow you to accept emails from a user alias on a domain alias. For example, if an email alias is created on the primary domain, emails can be successfully sent to UserAlias@DomainAlias.com as well. However, at this time, it's not possible to send from a user alias on a domain alias.

At the moment, the Send From dropdown contains the primary account and any domain aliases, SMTP accounts, and user aliases that have Send From functionality enabled. If there were multiple entries listing each user alias at the different domain aliases, a user's Send From dropdown could grow quite large - even when just a few user and domain aliases have been configured on the domain.

With this functionality not implemented, I would encourage you to continue utilizing your workaround from version 15.x.

Thank you,

I agree the list would grow quite large - but there is an easy fix and one we've used multiple times on other systems -

You let the user should from the "From User" and the "From Domain" in two separate dropdowns.

USERDROPDOWN @ DOMAINDROPDOWN

By doing this the user can choose exactly who they want to send from without having a crazy long list. Smartermail bills itself as being able to support multiple brands under one roof but without these basic tools it really is difficult to accomplish a lot of (what should be) easy things. :(
