Office 365 - Reverse DNS

We recently had clients complain that their customers email was not being received. The senders were using office 365 as a provider.

We tracked this to a Reverse DNS failure, which was correctly identified by SmarterMail and therefore given a high SPAM score as we have always had this set to a relatively high number in SPAM settings.

It would seem Microsoft acknowledge this as an issue and state Sending MTA  does not require a matching PTR record according to RFC’s ?

Most information out there would suggest to the contrary and wondering if setting a high SPAM score to reverse DNS is still appropriate/recommended.
