Antivirus Exclusions / Exceptions
Question asked by Information Technology - 3/15/2018 at 9:45 AM

Looking for details on adding exclusions or exceptions to existing antivirus software when running Smartermail.

I did locate the troubleshooting document for adding exceptions to Windows Defender. Unfortunately that document just specified global exceptions for 4 different file types. I'm not a fan of global file type exceptions.

I've added folder exceptions for:
-Program files (x86)\smartertools\smartermail
-And the directory containing domains and spools

I've added process exceptions for:
-mailservice.exe
-mailservice_subprocess.exe
-All clam executables for both 32 and 64 bit processes.

However, I can't find any processes or services for Cyren Anti spam or Anti Virus. What process are these running under? Yes, these are currently licensed and enabled.

Are there any other suggestions for antivirus exceptions / exclusions when running smartermail?

Both of the Cyren checks are performed in mailservice_subprocess.exe, so you should be good. It seems you got all the directories as well. I think you should be good.

You don't need to worry about the filetype thing as long as you got the spool folders and the domains folder on your exception list. There are a couple others like the XML files for the system which are in Program Files, and you got those as well.
