HI all !

Question, can someone out there help me try to track down a problem please.  I posted this on the Gmail forums, but so far no help.

The problem :
Gmail is bouncing emails TO OUR email servers. not all of the time, but on some random occurrences.
We do NOT use gmail or google for anything. We are NOT having problems sending TO gmail, but others are having problems sending from gmail to us..... "Sometimes"

our email servers (mail.GetMySiteOnline.com) We have about 35 domains on our servers.  Our mail servers have been up and running for 10 years ? the most recent change / move was 4 years ago to a new IP address.  For 10 years, no issues,
  • SmarterMail Enterprise Edition
  • Version 14.4.5801

As of about 6 months ago, random emails, to random users, on random domains on our servers will bounce. In every case so far, the sender is a gmail account, or a domain that is using gmail as their email back end.  This does not happen with yahoo, aol, or anyone else that we have taken notice of

Not consistent ;
* Sometimes the emails will in fact go through to our servers & accounts, but yet, Gmail will report to the sender that the email was bounced.  I had someone send me 3 emails this morning (to @HawaiianHope.org). I in fact got all 3 emails, they instead got messages that the emails bounced.

* One gmail user sends emails to a domain on our server (LeewardHabitat.org) .  Their emails pretty much consistently bounce and do not go though. But then the same gmail user sends emails to me, and they always go through. We are using the same email server.

*  Another user send emails to me from their work account,(a hosted domain with gmail as the back end) Their emails bounce and i do not get them..  But then when they send me an email to the same address, from their personal "Gmail" account, it goes through.

The domain that i am experiencing the most trouble with is the LeewardHabitat.org one.  It also happens to be the only domain on our server, where the hosting is with another company (HOSTMONSTER.COM), and only the email is with us.  I have asked them to consolidate everything to our server, but they are still deciding.

So far only a single person has responded to give me the email bounce errors. Here is what i got from them :

#1 I got very slow DNS responses for the leewardhabitat.org domain. Most production servers won't wait over 2 seconds and I got 50% failures on 10 attempts.

#2 Google along with most SMTP servers attempt to connect via a secure (TLS) connection, but that's not possible with mail.getmysiteonline.com See here:

The combination of slow DNS response, no secure connection, no SPF record, and no DKIM would make your server highly suspect (and very low priority) for other SMTP servers. I'm surprised you can deliver at all to many domains.
