Two missing webmail features in 16.x
Problem reported by Gonzalo Miranda - 1/2/2018 at 9:19 AM
Resolved
I know that there are a number of threads about missing functionality and features in 16.x but I haven't found anything on these specific ones. They are pretty minor, but for me they are important.
- The "Notifications" from the calendar no longer pop up when I log in or a reminder is triggered.
- The mailbox folders no longer display the number of emails in the folder (only the unread count)
Are these features gone or can they be turned on?

Greetings,

Currently notifications are only available within the 'Notifications' section which is the bell icon in the upper right hand corner when you sign in.

I've created a ticket for you based on this community post. I'd like to run this by our SmarterMail team to gather their thoughts on these two items and see if these two items are something we can add back in.

I'll update this post as soon as I have more information from the dev team.

Thank you. I can't be the only one that forgets to click on the bell from time to time.

Gonzalo,

Regarding the pop-up notifications these have been removed and replaced with browser notifications. If you're using Chrome, the notifications will only fire when accessing the web interface over a secure HTTPS connection.

You'll want to ensure your browsers permissions are allowing notifications from SmarterMail.

Regarding Mailbox folder counts. We will be addressing this in a future release, this improvement is on our roadmap.

I hope this helps.

Von-Austin See,

I had sorta-kinda thought that the notifications had been relegated to the browser since the new SM webmail generates notifications for new emails. However, the calendar notifications definitely do not come in.

I did check that the mail server was communicating via HTTPS and also that Chrome was set to allow notifications from my email server.

This may be a bug since Chrome is generating new email notifications but not calendar notifications.

Thank you for your assistance (Sorry, not trying to make this a tech support thread),

G.

PS: I'm looking forward to the email counts!
