EAS Problems with Windows 7 Clients on Office 2013 or 2016
Problem reported by Mark K. - 12/5/2017 at 9:24 PM
Not A Problem
SmarterMail Enterprise Edition, Version 15.7.6542

Windows 10 running Office 2013 or Office 2016 work without any issues.
Windows 7, 8 running Office 2013 or 2016 all stopped working.

"Log onto Exchange ActiveSync mail server (EAS): The server cannot be found."

Using Fiddler I was able to see the session:
HTTP: Tunnel to mail.domain.com:443
HTTP: Tunnel to mail.domain.com:443
HTTP: Tunnel to domain.com:443
HTTP: Tunnel to autodiscover.domain.com:443
HTTP: Tunnel to autodiscover.domain.com:443
HTTP: autodiscover.domain.com /autodiscover/autodiscover.xml

Then it fails with "Log onto Exchange ActiveSync mail server (EAS): The server cannot be found."

When I test Windows 10 it works, when I test older OS, it fails.

Anyone encounter this?

Disabling weak ciphers (TLS 1.0) on the mail server broke old windows clients trying to connect to EAS.
I re-enabled TLS 1.0 on the mail server and it seemed to fix the immediate problem for end-users.

Sounds like the same problem with recent versions of MSSQL on Windows Server 2012R2 still defaulting to TLS 1.0 even when the application and OS both can utilize TLS 1.1 & 1.2. We tried every patch and registry hack Microsoft gave us and still had to throw our hands up in frustration and re-enable TLS 1.0 to resolve it.
